Kamala Harris Repeats False Claim About Abortion ‘Monitor’

CLAIM: Kamala Harris repeated the false claim that President Trump wants a “watchdog” on abortion.

Verdict: False. Mr Trump never said that. This is a false claim that Ms Harris has used before.

Vice President Kamala Harris falsely claimed that former President Trump proposed appointing an abortion “watchdog” during Tuesday night's ABC News presidential debate in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Breitbart News fact-checked the claim when she made it at the Democratic National Convention.

The basis for Kamala Harris' claim appears to be the Heritage Foundation's infamous “Project 2025,” which Trump has rejected. The 922-page document says nothing about an “anti-abortion coordinator.”

But the bill says the Centers for Disease Control should collect better data on abortion outcomes and ensure miscarriages are not confused with abortions. This is a reference to a bill proposed by Sen. Joni Ernst (R-Iowa) called the Accurate and Complete Abortion Data Reporting Act of 2023. The short bill would require states to make mandatory reporting of abortion data, instead of the current voluntary reporting.

But again, it says nothing about “anti-abortion coordinators.”

It seems as though Kamala Harris' speechwriters simply invented the idea, perhaps hoping that a question about it would force Trump to deny it and thus repeat the claim.

Kamala Harris has never provided evidence for this claim, which is calculated to intimidate voters, but it is simply not true.
