Australian hockey player given 12-month ban for buying cocaine at Olympics | Paris Olympic Games 2024

Australian Olympic hockey player Tom Craig was arrested in Paris for buying cocaine during the Olympics and given a 12-month suspension, six months of which were suspended.

Governing body Hockey Australia said Craig's suspension began on Monday and was the result of an investigation by the association's integrity department into his arrest last month.

“Six months of this suspension will be fully served and the remaining six months will be fully suspended, subject to compliance with behaviour and conduct requirements,” HA said in a statement.

Additionally, the governing body said Craig would be required to complete mandatory training and education programs.

The HA said that despite being banned from competition, Craig would remain eligible to be selected for the 2025 national team, which is due to be announced at the end of the year. After being released from police custody in Paris with a warning, Craig apologised to his family and teammates and immediately left the athletes' village.

The 29-year-old has more than 100 caps for Australia and was a member of the men's silver medal-winning team at the Tokyo Olympics.
