Nate Silver lists 4 'huge mistakes' so far for Trump campaign

Pollster Nate Silver said: Post to X Just hours after it ended, the Trump campaign singled out the former president's performance in Tuesday night's debate as one issue, saying he had already made four “major mistakes.”

In Silver's calculations, Donald Trump's choice of Sen. J.D. Vance (R-Ohio) as his running mate was the first mistake. The second was his “disjointed campaign speech” that squandered “moments of friendship,” and his “failure to prepare for the transition to Harris.” The list ends with the debate, where Silver noted that Trump “was clearly unprepared and unable to sustain his best performance.”

In a subsequent post, Silver argued that Trump's acceptance of an “early debate with Biden” in June could also be seen as a misstep by the former president's campaign.

“Probably most importantly, I understand why they did it,” Silver said. stated in a follow-up At the time, previous debates had allowed both Presidents Biden and Trump to recover from their debate performances when necessary, and for President Trump to show off what he believed to be his superior mental acumen compared to President Biden. Other reasons include:

Trump has faced some backlash since adding Vance to his list of potential nominees in June. Circulate Trump has said he regrets choosing Vance as his running mate. Trump campaign co-chair Chris LaCivita denied those rumors last month.

“Number two, it's 100 percent not true,” LaCivita told Fox News Radio. “They talk about it at least two or three times a day. J.D. [Minnesota Gov. Tim] “Waltz and Kamala Harris. He's been on the campaign trail. He's a great partner. And it's just fake news.”

Trump's acceptance speech at the Republican National Convention in July Longest in history It also received criticism for its length.

Trump publicly complained about the transition from Biden to Harris on Truth Social.

“So we are forced to spend time and money fighting the bad Joe Biden, who after his terrible debates had his approval ratings soar and he dropped out of the race,” Trump wrote.

a CNN's Breaking Poll It showed that 63 percent of registered voters who watched last night's debate agreed that Harris beat Trump.
