- Canada, France, Germany, Spain and the United States have pledged to donate MPOX vaccines from their national stockpiles to African countries currently battling outbreaks of the disease.

After the World Health Organization declared a global public health emergency in August for the first time in two years, some countries have pledged to donate MPOX vaccines to combat the outbreak in Africa.
These donations are intended to address the huge inequities that led to African countries having limited access to vaccines during the 2022 pandemic.
Below is a list of countries that have pledged to donate vaccines made by Denmark's Bayern Nordic or Japan's KM Biologics.

Canada to donate up to 200,000 doses of pox vaccine
A Canadian government spokesperson announced on September 12 that up to 200,000 doses of the vaccine will be donated. The number of vaccines donated will depend on the storage and management capacity of the receiving country.
France pledges 100,000 doses of MPOX vaccine
In a Q&A section on its website last updated on Sept. 6, the French Ministry of Health announced that the country would donate 100,000 doses of the vaccine based on “identified needs on the ground.”
Germany to donate MPOX vaccine from military stockpile
A German government spokesman announced on August 26 that the country would donate 100,000 doses of vaccine from its military reserves to contain the spread of infection in the short term.

Japan requests 2 million doses of MPOX vaccine
The government of the Democratic Republic of Congo has asked Japan to donate at least 2 million vaccine doses, a top official at Africa's public health agency and a Congolese government official said on Aug. 27. The Japanese government had earlier said Congo had requested vaccines but did not specify the number.
Spain to donate 20% of MPOX vaccine stockpile
The Spanish Ministry of Health announced on August 27 that it would donate 500,000 doses, or 20% of its vaccine stockpile, and has asked the European Commission to propose that all EU member states donate 20% of their vaccine stockpiles.
US pledges 60,000 doses of MPOX vaccine
On August 22, the U.S. State Department announced that it would donate 50,000 doses of the Bavarian Nordic vaccine to the Democratic Republic of the Congo and help fund its vaccination efforts.

On August 27, the United States Agency for International Development announced that it would donate 10,000 doses of the MPOX vaccine to Nigeria.
European Union pledges 215,000 doses of MPOX vaccine
The EU has signed a joint procurement agreement with Bavarian Nordic to buy vaccines for donations, has committed to donating 215,000 doses to affected African countries, and has called on member states to coordinate donations rather than make them individually.
The European Union's Health Emergency Preparedness and Response Agency (HERA) agreed in August to procure 175,420 doses of the Bayer vaccine to be donated to the Africa Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), while the Danish company will donate a further 40,000 doses.
