Ben & Jerry's co-founders Ben Cohen and Jerry Greenfield have unveiled a new ice cream flavor, “Kamala's Coconut Jubilee,” as part of a get-out-the-vote effort to elect Vice President Harris and other lower-ranking Democrats in November.
Cohen and Greenfield will be taking part in progressive group MoveOn Political Action's “Scoop the Boat” ice cream truck tour, which kicks off in Philadelphia on September 16, when early voting begins in Pennsylvania.
Next month, the ice cream truck tour Over 20 cities He will hold four more rallies in battleground states: in Ann Arbor, Michigan on September 28, in Madison, Wisconsin on October 5, in Phoenix on October 10 and in Las Vegas on October 16.
At each stop, organizers will hand out free ice cream and giveaways and help people make plans to vote before November 5. The tour will also feature stops by “special guests,” including elected officials and activists, according to a MoveOn press release.
“MoveOn's Scoop the Boat Ice Cream Truck Tour will help us meet voters where they are and mobilize our communities to defeat Trump for good this fall,” the group's executive director, Lana Epting, said in a statement.
Epting emphasized how close the election will be, saying, “While there is excitement and joy on our side right now, we must not lose sight of how close this election will be.”
“A few thousand votes will determine whether we live under Kamala Harris' democracy or Donald Trump's dictatorship,” she added.
At each stop, Cohen and Greenfield will raffle off free pints of limited-edition “Kamala's Coconut Jubilee” beer — described as coconut ice cream adorned with caramel ripples and confetti stars — and tour participants can also enter the raffle online.
The Harris-inspired ice cream is being sold under the brand name “Ben's Best” rather than the traditional “Ben & Jerry's.”
The coconut flavor is a play on Harris' coconut tree meme, which was born out of an anecdote the vice president shared about her mother that resurfaced in recent weeks. The coconut tree symbol quickly became a sign of support for the Democratic candidate.
The ice cream truck stop will also sell other election-themed ice cream flavors, including “Zero Gravity Ice Cream with Vanilla Bean,” “Inauguration Birthday Cake,” “Fight for Our Rights Sherbet” and “Move On Mobilizer Milk Chocolate.”
Ben & Jerry's has previously released limited-edition flavors supporting specific political issues or candidates: In 2021, the company unveiled “Change is Brewing,” which was created to support a public safety bill introduced by Rep. Cori Bush (D-Missouri). In 2018, the company released a flavor celebrating the Women's March.
The company also created flavors supporting progressive candidate Bernie Sanders (I-VT) during his presidential run in 2016 and 2020.
