If there's one person who can handle Bob Saget, it's Kelly Rizzo.
Dave Coulier spoke exclusively to The Washington Post about the widow of his former “Full House” co-star, who died in January 2022 at age 65.
“We love her so much,” Coulier, 64, said on behalf of the beloved sitcom's cast, confirming that they had stayed in touch with Rizzo, 45, in the two and a half years since Saget's death.
“She was the perfect fit for Bob,” Coulier continued, “and she handled all of his craziness and his principles and his eccentricities. And, you know, Bob was a crazy maniac with a lot of neurotic energy and he was really crazy. He was really crazy.”
Rizzo and Saget had been married for four years when the actor tragically passed away. Saget's autopsy determined his cause of death was accidental blunt force trauma to the head. He likely fell backwards, fracturing the base of his skull and causing bleeding around the brain.
Coulier told The Post that Lizzo, who went public with her new boyfriend, “Clueless” actor Breckin Meyer, earlier this year, is staying as fit as she can.
“This is one of those things where we look at and celebrate the gift of life that Bob gave us, but we also recognize that life goes on,” he said.
“We have two choices: We can fill the rest of our lives with the wonderful memories that we have, or we can move forward and feel like, 'Oh no, he's not here,'” Coulier explained. “So I think we've all chosen to spend the rest of our lives celebrating Bob because that's the right thing to do and that's what he would have wanted.”
Coulier will be reunited with his “Full House” co-stars Candace Cameron Bure, Jodie Sweetin and Andrea Barber. Con of the 90s It's taking place this weekend in Daytona Beach, Florida.
He will miss Saget, but hopes special events like 90's Con will continue to celebrate Saget and his accomplishments.
“No matter how dark the mood, Bob is always something to celebrate,” Coulier said, “and we know he would have been laughing with us. So for us, we can keep Bob's legacy and his life alive. That's what we want to do.”
He continued, “We all hug each other and say, let's think about Bob for a moment because he was the glue that held us all together. He really was like a father to the whole group and would call and text everyone multiple times. It was crazy at the time, but it was really his way of showing his love.”
The second anniversary of Saget's death would have been January 2024.
Lizzo paid tribute to the late star, Long Message Two years after his death, we spoke about the six years we spent together.
“2 years. Wow. Feels like a week/Feels like an eternity,” she captioned a photo of Saget holding a guitar. “I chose this photo of Bob not only because it was the last photo he shared and one of the last messages he sent me, but because it perfectly represents how he would want us all to remember him: on stage with his guitar, doing what he loves…making people laugh…making people happy.”
