Stars of 'Yellowstone' hint at crossover spinoffs involving 'Dutton Ranch' and 'Marshals'

Kelly Reilly, known for her role in “Yellowstone,” has hinted at the possibility of a crossover between her spinoff “Dutton Ranch” and her on-screen brother’s show “Marshalls.” She expressed pride for her co-star Luke Grimes, saying, “We love him so much and we miss him.”

Reilly mentioned a desire for a crossover, suggesting it might happen someday. The popular “Yellowstone” series aired on Paramount from 2018 to 2024, following the Dutton family in Montana, starring Kevin Costner as John Dutton along with Wes Bentley, Luke Grimes, and Reilly herself.

As spoiler alerts go, John and Jamie didn’t make it to the end, while Casey is slated to produce “The Marshalls” for CBS, and Beth and Rip will focus on “Dutton Ranch,” debuting on May 15.

There’s still no official word if Casey and Beth will be seen in each other’s shows. In her conversation with People magazine, Reilly noted their passionate commitment to their roles, admitting both she and Cole Hauser are “a little bit obsessed” with them.

Interestingly, in “Dutton Ranch,” Rip and Beth will find themselves in unfamiliar territory, as they move to Texas, leaving their established roles behind.

Reilly took a trip down memory lane, recalling how Beth initially treated Rip poorly back in “Yellowstone.” Hauser described their early dynamic as “funny” but acknowledged feeling “a little off.” He found their eventual relationship to be quite “weird” at first, noting that Taylor Sheridan, the series creator, allows them the freedom to explore their characters creatively.

Amid behind-the-scenes drama, including a reported feud between Sheridan and Costner during the show’s last season, Sheridan will serve as an executive producer for “Dutton Ranch,” while Chad Feehan takes on the role of creator and showrunner. Feehan was reportedly let go shortly before the premiere due to conflicts with Reilly and Hauser.

In November 2023, Hauser’s coffee company, Free Rain Coffee, faced legal issues with Bosque Ranch, owned by Sheridan, over trademark claims. However, the lawsuit was dismissed a month later. Although he didn’t address the lawsuit in his interview with People, Hauser still praised Sheridan’s writing, emphasizing the creative freedom it allows.

The upcoming “Dutton Ranch” is set to premiere on May 15 on Paramount Network at 8 p.m.
