Julie Bowen joked this week that she's in an information and emotional “desert” when it comes to communicating with her teenage sons.
“I don't let them look at their phones in the car, but we're basically in the desert right now,” the Modern Family actress said of trying to get 17-year-old Oliver and his 15-year-old twins, John and Gustav, to confide in her.
“It's like I've been dumped by three guys that I was madly in love with and they're like, 'Hey, I'm in the kitchen,' and they never show up. I feel as hopeless as when I had a crush on a boy in high school.”
As she smoothed her hair over hers, she joked, “I'm like, 'Hi, it's me, mom. I gave birth to you.' No one cares.”

The 54-year-old actress shares sons with ex-husband Scott Phillips.
Because her sons wouldn't talk to her about girls or their personal problems, she said, “I purposely keep the house littered with books about sex, drugs, things to avoid, how to avoid getting people pregnant and not getting diseases, and I talk about those things all the time.”
She said there is a “no cell phones in the car” rule, but “kids are allowed to listen to whatever music they like, which in itself is a bit of a 'bleeding from the eyes' feeling.”

She acknowledged that her sons get “excited about new things,” like her upcoming movie “Happy Gilmore 2” and her new series “Hysteria!”
Bowen said her sons don't usually watch her movies, but “they love Adam Sandler,” and while they haven't seen the first “Happy Gilmore” movie in which she starred, they plan to see the sequel.
At the end of the interview, she joked about her children's language, saying she had promised them “they'll never say, 'Skizzidi!'” and told the camera, “Good communication, good communication, kids.”

Julie Bowen says that despite identifying as “straight,” she has had crushes on women in the past.
According to Urban Dictionary, skivvies are “a word often used to start a conversation, especially one that's full of brain rot.”
“Once a waiter said to me 'Mad Lizzie' and I said 'Does it mean something like charisma?' and he said 'What?' and I said 'Where do you think that came from? I've never made a Lizzie.'”

“Right now, I'm working on the East Coast and they live in LA, so the only way I can keep in touch with them is through Snapchat,” she explained, showing off some of the fun poses she sends them in Snaps.
