Pop star John Legend is facing a public backlash after he lectured residents of Springfield, Ohio, about the need to embrace the Haitian invasion that is overwhelming their working-class town.
John Legend, who has an estimated net worth of over $100 million and is a supporter of Kamala Harris, posted a video to Instagram this week urging Springfield residents to “love one another” — specifically, the roughly 20,000 Haitians who have relocated to the city in recent months as part of the Biden-Harris administration's protected resettlement of illegal immigrants.
“I think we all need to have the same kind of benefits that we want. [for] It connects “our ancestors” with “our Haitian brothers and sisters,” he said.
The singer has repeatedly emphasized that he grew up in Springfield, and in the video he goes by his real name, John R. Stevens (he even lists his Instagram bio as “John R. Stevens — Springfield, Ohio”).
But his attempts at authenticity fell on deaf ears to many.
“He lives in a multi-million dollar mansion in Beverly Hills,” one online commenter said.
“I love it when rich famous people tell us how we should feel about certain situations,” another wrote.
“How about we send 15,000 immigrants to where you live so you can experience the hardships for yourself,” wrote another.
Others have posted videos of Legend and his wife, Chrissy Teigen, giving a virtual tour of their mansion.
In his Instagram post, John Legend made no mention of the horror stories Springfield residents have been forced to endure due to the Biden-Harris administration's preferential treatment of illegal immigrants.
In August 2023, an unlicensed Haitian driver crashed into a school bus, killing a local child. Forced Veering off the road.
Some say the influx of immigrants has destabilized neighborhoods and created a dual society in which immigrants, who receive many tax-funded benefits, are given preferential treatment over non-Americans.
In a video, John Legend denied claims that Haitians are killing and eating local pets, but it's unclear how he can authoritatively refute such claims.
