NFL legend Troy Aikman reveals post-divorce struggles: ‘That was my rock bottom’

Dallas Cowboys legend Troy Aikman's second marriage came to an end last year.

Aikman married Katherine “Capa” Muti in 2017, and their divorce was finalized in July 2023. Despite having a number of high-profile TV jobs over the past few decades, the 57-year-old announcer has been able to maintain a private life.

But the notoriously private “Monday Night Football” commentator recently opened up about some of the inner conflict he's been dealing with since his marriage to Muti fell apart.

Aikman said realizing the union wouldn't be successful was his “rock bottom.”

“Failure. That was my rock bottom,” the Cowboys Hall of Famer told The Athletic.

Aikman proposed to Muti while they were vacationing on Lake Como in Italy, and People magazine reported that the pair had been dating for about a year before getting engaged.

Longtime NFL announcer Troy Aikman said he missed out on a chance to become a general manager and hinted at retirement.

The Pro Football Hall of Famer said he always wanted to avoid “complacency.”

“For me, contentment has always been a four-letter word. I never wanted to be satisfied,” Aikman said. “I never wanted to be around someone who was satisfied. It just wasn't a place for me.”

However, The Athletic noted that Aikman was able to hide the “inner struggle” he was facing.

“His success, so visible to all, concealed an inner conflict no one knew about,” the magazine reported. “Aikman had wrestled with it for decades, fighting his own happiness and chasing goals that might or might not have existed.”
