‘Sharp Viewership Decline’ for ‘Rings of Power’ Season 2

Amazon's $1 billion investment of The Lord of the Rings: The Ring of Power The streaming series doesn't seem to be paying off. Forbes The second season of the hyper-conscious show reportedly saw a “sharp drop in viewership” compared to the first.

“Season 2 reached 40 million viewers in 11 days, according to Amazon.” Reports ForbesIt may sound like a lot, but Ring of Power “In just one day, viewership reached 25 million… This clearly represents a significant decrease in viewership from season to season.”

Forbes This is not the only source reporting this decline.

“According to Samba TV data, 902,000 households tuned in to watch the premiere within four days of its broadcast, a significant decrease from season one.” Reports Deadline Those 902,000 people are half of the number who tuned in to watch the first episode of season one (1.8 million).

This comes on the heels of season one losing a staggering 63 percent of its viewers over the course of its eight episode run, and most of those who had no intention of watching season one to the end likely didn't even seem to care if season two improved things.

To secure this right The Lord of the Rings For the prequel, Amazon agreed to produce five seasons of at least 40 episodes, resulting in rights/production fees and commitments of $1 billion.

For purely political reasons, Amazon The Lord of the Rings What Disney Did Star WarsThey acquired the rights to a work with a huge fan base and then attacked those fans. I patiently watched the first two episodes. Ring of Power I watched season 1 and it was really boring. The diverse cast is ridiculously self-conscious. The main character (Galadriel) is a Mary Sue. Star Wars The lead character, Ray, is so good that the story lacks momentum, and most importantly, the characters are portrayed as woke symbols rather than real people with inner lives, making it hard to feel anything for them.

To make matters worse, Oppressive Social messaging and the Kathleen Kennedy-esque delight the creators took in intentionally alienating their most ardent fans.

Amazon promised to get things right with season 2. Maybe they did. We don't know. Life is too short to waste time finding out. Either way, as you can see from the ratings, season 1 was so unpleasant that almost no one thought the show was worth giving another chance. The Critical Drinker say We made the right decision.

Amazon is contractually obligated to produce three more seasons at approximately $100-150 million per season (the rights alone cost $250 million).

Season 1 ended disastrously 38 percent Rotten Tomatoes audience score: Season 2 is a bit better, but still brutal 58 percent.

Never before has Hollywood seen such a universally beloved, flawless film seem so determined to alienate its fanbase rather than captivate them.

That's madness.
