Florida State season already a disappointment after third straight bad loss vs. Memphis

Florida State might be the most disappointing team in all of college football.

The Seminoles suffered a shocking 20-12 loss to unranked Memphis on Saturday and are now 0-3 this season after starting the season ranked 10th in both the Associated Press and coaches' preseason polls.

Their awful start means they're all but certain to fall below the preseason over/under of 9.5 wins, which would make them the first FBS team to earn the under this season. Action Network's Brett McMurphy.

Florida State is coming off its best season under coach Mike Norvell, going 13-0 and winning the ACC championship before losing to Georgia in the Orange Bowl.

This season things have been quite different.

The Seminoles entered the game as the favorites to win the conference, but a loss to 10.5-point favorite Georgia Tech in Week 0 all but wiped out any chance of a back-to-back ACC titles.

A week later, the team made things even worse, this time losing to Boston College by a 16.5-point margin.

Norvell's team was a 6.5-point favorite before losing to the Tigers on Saturday.

Oddsmakers predict Florida State is unlikely to win the national title, with BetMGM Sportsbook pricing Florida State at +2500 to win, the 10th-best odds in college football.

Those hopes are effectively dashed, and the toughest part of Florida State's schedule is yet to come.

The Seminoles are scheduled to play No. 10 Miami, No. 18 Notre Dame and No. 22 Clemson in the coming months, putting the school in a very real position to slip into a losing season.

Florida State will play the ACC's University of California next Saturday night in Tallahassee.
