Sen. J.D. Vance (R-Ohio) said Sunday on NBC's “Meet the Press” that the media and the Harris-Waltz campaign are calling residents of Springfield, Ohio, racists.
Host Kristen Welker said, “Regarding former President Trump's baseless claims that immigrants are eating pets in Springfield, Ohio, Senator, you first shared that claim online earlier this week. Local authorities now say there are no credible reports of immigrants harming pets or animals. In fact, frankly, neo-Nazis are now claiming credit for pushing these rumors into the mainstream. Why do you continue to double down and triple down on these unfounded claims?”
“I've heard these complaints directly from multiple constituents, people who called 911 a month ago, a year ago, and I trust them more than I trust the American media, who never showed any interest in what happened in Springfield until we started sharing cat memes,” Vance said. “This is shameful.”
He added, “We condemn any acts of violence and any threats of violence, but Kristen, the reason why I've changed my mind about Donald Trump is actually perfectly highlighted by what's going on in Springfield, because the media and the Kamala Harris campaign are calling the residents of Springfield racists. They're lying about the residents and saying reports about immigrants eating geese are fake. They're completely ignoring the public health disaster that's happening in Springfield right now.”
