The leaders of a congressional select committee announced on Sunday that they had requested a report from the Secret Service following the new assassination attempt on former President Trump.
“Our task force is monitoring the assassination attempt that took place this afternoon in West Palm Beach on former President Trump,” Rep. Mike Kelly (R-PA) and Rep. Jason Crow (D-CO) said. In a statement“We have requested a report from the U.S. Secret Service on what happened and how security forces responded.”
Kelly and Crow are leading a special team set up to investigate the July assassination attempt on President Trump in Butler, Pennsylvania.
“While we are grateful that the former president was not harmed, we remain deeply concerned about political violence and condemn it in any form,” the House members continued. “The Task Force will share updates as more information becomes available.”
There was another assassination attempt on President Trump on Sunday while he was playing at a golf course in West Palm Beach, Florida. Florida authorities said Sunday that a Secret Service agent saw a rifle barrel protruding from a fence at the golf course. The agent opened fire, and the man dropped an AK-47-style rifle with a scope and fled in an SUV, the authorities added.
Authorities said they arrested a man in a vehicle matching the witness' description in Martin County.

Trump later thanked law enforcement for the “great job” they did in a post on Truth Social.
“Thank you all for your concern and encouragement. It's been a truly interesting day!” Trump said in a post on Truth Social.
“Most importantly, I want to thank the United States Secret Service, Sheriff Rick Bradshaw and the brave and dedicated Patriot Office and everyone in law enforcement for the amazing job they did today at Trump International to keep me, the 45th President of the United States and the Republican candidate in the upcoming Presidential election, safe. The job that was done was truly incredible. I am so proud to be an American!”
