Jets’ Jermaine Johnson confirms he tore Achilles

The Jets received the expected news on Monday: pass rusher Jermaine Johnson ruptured his right Achilles tendon in Sunday's loss to the Titans and is expected to miss the remainder of the season.

Johnson announced the results of X's MRI on Monday.

He was injured in the third quarter of the Jets' 24-17 win at Tennessee on Sunday.

Johnson was chasing Titans quarterback Will Revis when Revis fell to the ground.

“It's official,” Johnson said in the video, “the MRI results are positive. Well, the information is negative, but the results are positive. I tore my Achilles tendon. But I'm fine. I'm doing great. I'll be back soon. This is a great opportunity for me to brag about how far I've come.”

The 25-year-old defensive end is a key component of the Jets' defense and will be a big loss for the team.

Haason Reddick, who was still waiting for a new contract, gained some influence with the team.

Jets head coach Robert Saleh won't say the injury adds any urgency to bringing Redick back to the team.

The Jets have Will McDonald and Michael Clemons as their lead edge rushers.

“Again, we have people on our team that we love,” Saleh said. “People that we've worked with and we're going to continue to work with them until we get this all resolved.”

Saleh said he expects three injured players — C.J. Mosley (toe), D.J. Reed (knee) and Michael Carter II (ankle) — to be able to play Thursday against the Patriots.

Reid missed Sunday's game because he “was not feeling well” during a pre-game evaluation.

Mosley left the game in the first half.

Carter, who has been bothered by an ankle injury since training camp, missed part of the game.

The Jets did not practice Monday but released a projected injury report indicating Mosley would not practice.

The Jets had a better day defensively against the Titans than they did against the 49ers in Week 1.

The Jets allowed 130 yards rushing, 38 of which came on Revis scrambles.

“All things considered, I think our run defense has improved a lot,” Saleh said. “Obviously, on the first couple drives, it took a little bit of getting used to, but I think they gained about 90 yards on about 24, 25 carries on designed run plays. I know the quarterback scrambled for 40 yards, so it looked like we gained a little, 130 yards, but it was really only about 90 yards, excluding the QB scramble. But overall, I think our run game has improved a lot, especially given our opponent's strategy, which is a well-designed strategy and it's a strategy that's hurt us in the past.”

The 49ers rushed 38 times for 180 yards in Week 1.
