DETROIT — A second person has died in a shooting at a popular tailgating venue after a Detroit Lions game, police said Monday.
According to Police Chief James White, the fight broke out around 4:30 p.m. Sunday at Eastern Market, an outdoor gathering spot. Tampa Bay had just defeated the Lions, 20-16, at nearby Ford Field.
“We don't know the details, but it's a tragedy that someone would lose their life,” Lions coach Dan Campbell said Monday.
The fight escalated when one person pulled a gun and fired at least two shots. White said officers on the scene responded to the shooting, arrested the suspect and seized two handguns.
“Driving close to one another, drinking alcohol and guns don't mix,” White told reporters on Sunday.
The victims were Detroit men, one in his 40s and the other in his 20s. A suspect, an Oak Park resident, was taken into custody.
White said the confrontation began as a large fight that broke up minutes later.

“They reconvened a few feet away from where the initial fight began,” the chief said. “The two combatants raised their hands as if they were going to fight each other. … One of the participants in the fight, a man from Oak Park, pulled out a gun and fired at least two shots.”
