Could This Be the Future?

With a game approaching in the Bay Area, a video of humanoid robots battling it out has taken the internet by storm, evoking scenes reminiscent of a sci-fi movie.

While we might not yet have floating cars or jetpacks, it seems that the era of robot sports has officially begun.

In a post shared on X by virtual reality enthusiast Cix Liv, two AI robots are shown engaged in a fierce contest as an excited crowd looks on.

“The first-ever battle between Engine and Unitree robots in San Francisco’s new store space,” noted REX, the CEO of the Humanoid Robot League.

In the footage, the robots fight with human-like movements—throwing punches and dodging each other’s attacks. They maintain impressive balance during their exchanges, a testament to their design.

At one climactic moment, both robots land simultaneous kicks to each other’s heads, resulting in both crashing to the ground. It’s a scene full of excitement and a bit of chaos.

The video highlights the unique abilities of each robot. The Engine AI robot, clad in dark metal, is designed for high-performance activities in settings like logistics and hospitality. In contrast, Unitree, which sports a white and black exterior, can run at impressive speeds and navigate tough terrain.

Liv, who also leads the humanoid robot league REK (Robot Entertainment Kombat), has shared plans for the first American storefront to open this summer in San Francisco’s Nob Hill. The venue will function as a retail space during the day but transform into a battleground for robots at night.

“We realized that, for people to get comfortable around robots, we needed to start introducing them into their lives,” Liv explained. The idea is for the robots to interact with customers, remember their names, and engage in conversations.

As anticipation builds, the Ultimate Fighting Bots league prepares for its inaugural event on May 14th in Temple SF, featuring not only fights but also robot dance-offs and martial arts competitions.

There’s even plans for another robot battle in Southern California later this year, blending technology and culture in a vivid display.
