County officials in the suburban New York area where President Donald Trump is holding his first campaign rally since surviving a second assassination attempt are holding security briefings in preparation for the 2024 Republican candidate's arrival.
Nassau County Mayor Bruce Blakeman and Police Commissioner Patrick Ryder sought to reassure voters about safety measures at a news conference ahead of the vote.
President Trump is scheduled to hold a rally of his supporters at the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum on Wednesday night, days after the U.S. Secret Service opened fire on an armed man pointing a rifle at a golf course perimeter in West Palm Beach, Florida.

The suspect in the case, Ryan Wesley Routh, made his initial appearance in federal court early Monday morning. He faces federal charges of felony possession of a firearm and possession of a firearm with a defaced serial number.
More charges may be filed as the investigation continues.
On July 13, another gunman opened fire at a Trump rally in Butler County, Pennsylvania.
