Alaska Airlines completed the acquisition on Wednesday, one day after the federal government removed the final hurdle in the deal.
Alaska Airlines said Hawaiian will continue as a separate brand and will not need to repaint its planes.
It also said it would assume about $900 million in Hawaii's debt.
The airlines agreed to maintain current service levels within Hawaii and on major routes between Hawaii and the mainland U.S.
Alaska Air Group shares fell just over 1% on Wednesday.
The airlines also agreed to consumer protections, including not reducing the value of frequent flyer miles when combining loyalty programs and promising to compensate passengers for cancellations or significant delays caused by the airlines' fault.
