Eli Manning a first-time nominee for Pro Football Hall of Fame

Former Giants quarterback and two-time Super Bowl champion Eli Manning has been named to the inaugural list of candidates for the Pro Football Hall of Fame class of 2025.

Manning led the Giants to Super Bowl victories in 2008 and 2012, both of which came against Tom Brady and the Patriots.

The Giants great was named MVP in both of those Super Bowls.

He was one of 167 modern-era nominees announced by the Hall of Fame on Wednesday, with that number expected to be narrowed down to 50 by a selection committee next month.

The field will be narrowed down to 25 candidates, with 15 being selected before the Super Bowl.

To be inducted, a player must receive 80 percent of the votes, and according to Hall of Fame rules, three to five players from the modern-day nominees can be inducted.

Manning was the first overall pick by the Chargers but was traded to the Giants without ever playing a game for the San Diego franchise at the time.

He was a four-time Pro Bowl selection during his NFL career, passing for 57,023 yards and 366 touchdowns.

Manning has never led the NFL in a major statistical category in a single season and has never been selected All-Pro.

He retired with a record of 117-117-0 and ranks 10th all-time in passing yards and passing touchdowns.

He ranks 12th all-time in NFL history in game-winning drives.

Besides Manning, there are several other Giants greats up for induction into the Hall of Fame in the 2025 class.

Running back Tiki Barber, tight end Jeremy Shockey, guard Chris Snee, defensive end Justin Tuck, linebacker Jesse Armstead and punters Jeff Feagles and Sean Landeta were on the ballot along with Manning.

If elected, Manning would join his brother, NFL legend Peyton Manning, in the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
