Israel has offered Hamas leaders a new hostage deal: “Release all 101 remaining hostages and we will let you live.”
The proposal came after months of fruitless negotiations over a U.S.-backed proposal for a phased release of the hostages. Israel reluctantly accepted the U.S. deal, which did not guarantee the release of all the hostages and left it unclear whether Hamas would be fully disarmed or removed from the Gaza Strip.
The new proposal is a one-step agreement that would allow Hamas leaders to safely evacuate all 101 hostages, dead or alive, from Gaza, and to intervene with several Palestinian terrorist criminals.
The Israel Times Reported Thursday:
Israel has proposed a framework for an agreement with Hamas that would see the immediate release of all hostages, an end to fighting in the Gaza Strip and the safe escape of Yahya Sinwar and his associates from the enclave, state broadcaster Kan reported.
The proposed plan would include the release of Palestinian prisoners held in Israel, the demilitarization of the Gaza Strip and a new governance system for the strip, according to the report, without providing further details.
The Forum of Families of Missing Hostages, which has opposed Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's government in recent months, welcomed the announcement of the new plan and urged the government to go ahead with it.
“A one-time agreement including all 101 hostages is the aspiration of all Israelis and their families. This proposal will strengthen Israel's security and make it possible to achieve a comprehensive regional solution,” the forum said in a statement. Reported According to The Times of Israel.
(I have long argued that the only possible deal, given that Israel is forced to commit to destroying Hamas, is one in which its leaders can be persuaded to spare their own lives in exchange for the release of the hostages.)
