Bears’ DJ Moore speaks out on poor body language, Caleb Williams frustration

Bears wide receiver DJ Moore might miss Justin Fields more than we thought.

Moore looked miserable throughout Week 2's primetime “Sunday Night Football” game as No. 1 overall pick Caleb Williams repeatedly missed him.

After the game, Moore agreed he shouldn't have been so overtly angry with the team's new franchise quarterback during the 19-13 loss.

Moore caught 6 of 10 passes for 53 yards to lead the Bears.

“We shouldn't have shown that much,” Moore said. Via ESPN“But that's part of the game. Like I said, we were one play away from changing the game, and we just didn't get it together. Nobody on our offensive line was one play away from getting it together, or one play away from getting back on track and winning. That's football. Everybody goes through ups and downs and frustrations.”

Late in the fourth quarter, with the Bears leading 19-10, Moore ditched his helmet after a big miss on a back shoulder route in which Williams beat the cornerback badly.

It was so obvious that NBC anchor Cris Collinsworth pointed out the missed pass and the reaction afterward.

“I know what DJ Moore was thinking,” Collinsworth said after the third-down, four-yard fumble. “'Squeeze the corner toward the middle of the field. Leave it five yards from the boundary line. Plenty of space on the back shoulder.'”

The Bears still kicked a field goal after an incomplete pass, but were unable to score again after getting the ball back with 1 minute, 37 seconds left.

Moore also looked dejected on the sideline but denied that theory.

Though the Bears' passing attack has been fairly weak, the veteran still leads the Bears in receptions (11), targets (18) and receiving yards (89) through two games.

“I don't know what it's like because I sit on the bench like that all the time,” Moore said.

Moore's inappropriate body language was reminiscent of another of his harsh comments during the 2023 season, when he expressed displeasure with the Bears considering releasing Justin Fields from his contract.

“Oh, there are two of you? [then-prospects Caleb Williams and Drake Maye] I don't think he's better than Justin. [Fields]” Moore said.

Fields currently stands out as the quarterback for the Steelers, who are 2-0, while the Bears are 1-1.

Williams is second-worst in total scoring among quarterbacks.Heading into the Week 3 road game against the Colts, he ranks second in the NFL behind only benched guard Bryce Young.
