Vice President Kamala Harris has been ridiculed for her recent rhetoric, with many pointing out that her comments have left celebrity advocate Oprah Winfrey looking confused and even “lost.”
Trump, the Democratic presidential nominee, repeatedly rambled incoherently during a two-hour virtual rally with Winfrey late on Thursday, with the TV host at times urging him to answer questions more honestly.
She then finished her speech with a two-minute monologue, which online commentators said left the powerful media mogul looking “lost” and “unimpressed”, baffling many in the audience, including Winfrey.
“We love our country. I love our country. I know we all do. That's why we're all here. We love our country. We're proud of the privilege of being Americans. And now, [pause] “We can and must come together as Americans because we understand we have far more in common than what divides us,” Harris said, pausing for a moment before smiling.
“Let's come together with characters who are so proud of who we are,” she said.
“We believe in what is possible, we believe in what is possible, and we believe in fighting for it,” she said, using her favorite – and oft-maligned – phrase, “what is possible,” before calling for “the freedom to just be.”
“Hmm,” Winfrey replied poker-faced.
Harris concluded: “That's who we are. We believe in all of that, and so now is the moment for us to stand up and know what we're fighting for. We're not fighting against it, we're fighting for it.”
Missouri Senator Eric Schmitt shared a video of the monologue, sarcastically comparing her to “Bill and Ted,” writing, “Kamala's odyssey continues.”
“An epic word salad,” he wrote.
“The media should really be ashamed at this point. She's running for president of the United States and all we hear is Oprah's scripted comments or out of context stories.”
“Oh my gosh… it's worse than I thought!” one follower wrote, while another commented: “My IQ dropped 40 points after watching this.”
The two-hour “Unite for America” livestreamed event from Michigan was intended to showcase grassroots activists who support Harris and give voters a chance to ask questions about her policies, but the Democratic presidential candidate did not offer any new policy proposals.
When a viewer asked Harris what her plan was to “lower the cost of living,” she responded: “Your story is one that I hear often as I travel around the country: about the right to have aspirations and dreams and ambitions for your family, both in terms of working hard and also realizing that the American Dream is a lot more difficult to achieve for this generation and a lot of people these days than it was in the past.”
“And we need to address that,” she said, pleading only for the possibility of “lowering the prices of everyday items, including groceries,” which have risen under her administration under President Biden.
