District Judge Dead After Being Shot in Chambers by Kentucky Sheriff

Letcher County Sheriff Shawn M. Stines is accused of shooting and killing District Judge Kevin Mullins in his chambers Thursday just before 3 p.m.

CNN Reported Stines, 43, allegedly shot Mitchell, 54, multiple times following an argument, and emergency responders attempted life-saving measures but were unsuccessful.

Stines turned himself in to authorities, was arrested without incident and is cooperating with the investigation.

“This is a small area to begin with, so we're all shaken up,” said Trooper Matt Gayheart of the Kentucky State Police.

It is not yet clear what caused the altercation which escalated into violence.
