NYPD officers raided an immigrant-run brothel in New York City late Wednesday night, authorities said.
of New York Post The investigation took place at an immigrant-run brothel in Sweethearts Market, a notorious prostitution-ridden main street in Queens on Roosevelt Avenue, the report said.
“But prostitution is everywhere. It's ridiculous and shameful.”
The raid was initiated by officers from the Public Safety Unit and the 110th Precinct. Law enforcement officials said prostitutes and clients were arrested during the raid.
“This brothel is the worst of the worst. It's open 24 hours a day,” Queens Democratic District Leader Hiram Monserrate told The Post.
Monserrate noted that the sex workers are illegal immigrants who are forced into prostitution to pay off debts of up to $50,000 to traffickers.
“The large number of immigrants who have come here in a short period of time has led to an increase in crime, some of whom are members of organized crime gangs,” Monserrate added.
The news outlet highlighted how migrant sex workers solicit clients in busy areas, while drugs and stolen goods are sold on the sidewalks in broad daylight.
“But prostitution is everywhere. It's ridiculous and shameful,” said Mirella Gutierrez, co-owner of a pharmacy off Roosevelt Street.
Guiterrez said business at his shop was worsening because customers “feel threatened” by prostitutes and dealers peddling stolen goods.
Prostitution is a B-grade in New York City Petty crime — Punishable by up to 90 days in jail.

As The Blaze News reported in November 2023, Adams acknowledged that the influx of Venezuelan immigrants has contributed to the rise in prostitutes in New York City, but Adams argued that women turn to prostitution because they can't find legal work.
Adams last month called for reform of New York's sanctuary city law, citing several high-profile crimes committed by immigrants.
“The people we need to change are those who are repeat violent criminals,” Adams said. said“Once he serves his sentence, he should be turned over to ICE and taken off the streets.”
