Caitlin Clark’s eye-popping effect on WNBA attendance, TV ratings

We all know that Caitlin Clark has had a huge impact on WNBA viewership this season, but the numbers written out are worth noting.

With the WNBA regular season now over and the playoffs starting Sunday, the numbers are out on how many viewers she drew both on television and in the arena.

Fox executive Michael Mulvihill Report on Friday Clark's televised games averaged 1.178 million viewers, nearly three times the average viewership of other WNBA games, which averaged 394,000.

Associated Press reporter Tim Reynolds reported attendance numbers.

The average attendance for Fever games this season was 16,084, nearly double the average attendance for non-Fever games, which was 8,552.

“That's an 88% difference. That's Caitlyn-mania,” Reynolds wrote.

Reynolds also provided details for each team, showing attendance numbers for home games against the Fever compared to other games.

The biggest disparities were in Atlanta and Washington.

The Dream Game averaged 17,592 fans in attendance when the Fever was in attendance, compared to an average of 3,316 for all other games.

The Mystics drew 20,522 fans when the Fever visited and averaged 4,988 fans for the rest of their games.

The Dream and Mystics usually play in smaller venues, but Clark moved the Fever game to the Hawks and Wizards arena when he came to town.

The smallest differences were in Chicago, Connecticut and Dallas, who played in smaller arenas and did not travel to larger ones for the Fever.

Earlier this week, Clark's teammate, Kelsey Mitchell, said Clark created a halo effect that gave her even more credit for his all-star performance this season.

“The reality is, I can't imagine people didn't know. [Caitlin Clark]I applaud Caitlyn. … I think she's done an incredible job of connecting, of course, her fans and the people who support her.” Mr. Mitchell.

“For me, I laugh at it but I also embrace it at the same time, because I've always kept a low profile. I've always been that kind of person, that kind of player. Very conservative. Very introverted. So now I get to see the other side of it and it's kind of funny. I can laugh because I know it's a heartfelt emotion.”

“But I accept it from the people’s perspective. [are] “There was no guarantee that people would see me play, but now they do, so I just hope I play well and don't screw up.”

The Fever open their first-round playoff series against the Sun on Sunday at 3 p.m.
