Keith Urban has given fans an update on his wife, Nicole Kidman, who he said was “heartbroken” when she announced the sudden death of her mother earlier this month.
“Oh, everybody's good. Thanks for listening,” the 56-year-old country singer said. He told the Times In an interview published Friday.
He did not comment further on the death of his mother-in-law, Janelle.
Kidman, 57, had just arrived at the Venice Film Festival on September 7 but left early after learning of her mother's death.
“Babygirl” director Halina Raine read a handwritten note from Kidman, who won best actress for her performance in the film, during a scheduled appearance.
“Shortly after arriving in Venice today, I learned that my beautiful and brave mother, Janelle Ann Kidman, has passed away,” the note read. “I am devastated and must be with my family, but this award is for her.”
“She shaped me, guided me, and built me into who I am,” the “Moulin Rouge” actress continued, “and I am so grateful to be able to share her name with you all through Halina.”
“The collision of life and art is heartbreaking and my heart is broken.”
A rep for Kidman confirmed the news to Page Six, saying, “The family is heartbroken and asks that their privacy be respected at this time.”
On September 13th, the Oscar-winning actress and her sister Antonia Shared a message of gratitude My condolences to all the fans.
“My sister and I, and our family, are grateful for the outpouring of love and kindness we've felt this week,” Kidman wrote alongside a throwback photo of her mother.
“All the messages we have received from people who loved and respected our mother mean more to us than words can express.”
It is unclear how Janelle, who was 84, died.
However, Kidman hinted that she had been having health problems. Appeared on NPR's “Fresh Air” podcast in January 2022.
“We are here [in Australia] “Mainly to take care of my mother and to surround her with her grandchildren,” she said.
“Fortunately, yesterday [COVID-19 strain] With Omicron raging across the country, we were able to take her to a gallery during off-hours to see the Matisse exhibit. For a mother who raised me in the art world, that was very, very calming and therapeutic.”
In 2020, Kidman was unable to attend her mother's 80th birthday due to the pandemic, but said she was happy to be reunited with her in August of that year.
