A young mother took the abortion pill and suffered serious complications and tragically died.
Her name was Amber Thurman, and her untimely death has become the latest political pawn used to advance political propaganda, specifically, in a distorted form, abortion propaganda.
“Democrats, the media and activists are trying to blame Georgia's pro-life law and Donald Trump for her death.” Allie Beth Stuckey Many commented that they “can relate,” pointing out that Thurman passed away in 2022, but this is only becoming a topic of conversation now.
Thurman was nine weeks pregnant with twins when she decided to take the abortion pill that would take the lives of both her babies, but she fell ill just hours after taking the second pill.
She was rushed to hospital but doctors failed to give her proper treatment and she later died of sepsis.
“Now pro-life advocates are blaming Georgia's abortion ban for the doctor's unwillingness and ultimately her death,” Stuckey said, noting that Thurman had scheduled a D&C abortion in North Carolina.
“Actually, a vacuum tube is inserted through the mother's cervix into the uterus to suck the living baby out of the uterus. At this point, the hope is that the baby is already dead, because there are various ways to try to starve and poison the baby before dilation, but this isn't always the case,” she explains.
Thurman reportedly got stuck in traffic and missed her appointment, and was offered two abortion pills instead.
“My understanding is that without ever meeting her or doing an ultrasound to see how far along the pregnancy was, Planned Parenthood simply said, 'Yes, take this abortion pill,'” Stuckey explained, adding, “This is FDA-approved, by the way.”
At first, Thurman was just suffering from period pain, but after taking the second pill, she began bleeding heavily and when she arrived at the hospital, it was discovered that there was still fetal remains in her uterus, which had also developed an infection.
“Unfortunately, this is what happens all too often in these situations,” Stuckey said. “As you'll recall, it's the abortion lobby that has been fighting tooth and nail against every Republican legislative attempt to ensure that women have access to medical care when obtaining an abortion.”
Democrats now blame Thurman's death on Georgia's pro-life law, which specifically carved out exceptions for cases like Thurman's.
“Acts performed for the purpose of removing a fetus that has died by spontaneous abortion or for the purpose of removing an ectopic pregnancy” are permitted.
“So in the state of Georgia, she could have legally had a dilation even after her baby had died, which is completely legal,” Stuckey said.
