Cards Against Humanity files lawsuit against SpaceX on allegations of trespassing in Texas

The gaming company Cards Against Humanity has filed a lawsuit against billionaire Elon Musk's SpaceX, alleging that the space launch company trespassed on land in South Texas and damaged vacant land owned by the gaming company.

The lawsuit accuses SpaceX of treating the gaming company's land in Cameron County as its own property for at least the past six months. The company is seeking $15 million in damages, including damages for the loss of vegetation on the land.

“Despite the fact that CAH owns the property and that SpaceX has no title or use to the property, SpaceX has disregarded CAH's rights to the property and has effectively excluded CAH and deprived CAH of any use of the property,” the complaint states.

Cards Against Humanity claims that what was once a “pristine” site covered in native grasses and cacti has been transformed by SpaceX's use of the site as a staging area, after the company acquired a vacant lot along the same road and built around it.

Piles of machinery and materials can now be seen remaining on the property, according to photos included in the lawsuit.

In 2017, Cards Against Humanity launched CAH Saves America, a crowdfunding campaign to purchase land to block the construction of former President Donald Trump's proposed border wall along the Texas-Mexico border.

The company said 150,000 people paid $15 each to help protect land along the U.S.-Mexico border, just a few miles from SpaceX's launch site.

“Seven years ago, 150,000 people paid $15 to protect pristine land on the U.S.-Mexico border from racist billionaire Donald Trump's stupid wall,” the company said. Website “Unfortunately, an even wealthier, even more racist billionaire — Elon Musk — has come up behind the scenes and completely trashed the property with gravel, tractors and space junk,” the lawsuit states.

If Cards Against Humanity wins the lawsuit, the company said the net proceeds from the lawsuit will be distributed equally to all 150,000 donors, up to $100 each.

In its lawsuit, Cards Against Humanity argues that the land is maintained in its natural state and that “no trespassing” signs are in place to warn people about trespassing on private property.

“150,000 people donated their hard-earned money to us and, in return, we pledged to protect this land from racist billionaires and their stupid vanity,” the company said on a website dedicated to the lawsuit.

Many people in South Texas have also expressed concern about Musk's intrusion onto their land. According to Reuters.
