A senior adviser to Sen. Angela Alsobrooks said Sunday that the Maryland Democratic Senate candidate was unaware that she was improperly taking advantage of tax breaks to which she was not entitled and that her lawyers were working to resolve the issue. CNN Report That morning.
According to CNN, for more than a decade, Alsobrooks applied for a home tax exemption that should only apply to a person's primary residence, saving him thousands of dollars on two properties in Washington, D.C., and Maryland. The discovery was made after the news organization reviewed property tax records for both of Alsobrooks' properties.
The investigation also found that Alsobrooks, 53, improperly claimed senior citizen tax credits on a Washington property, cutting his taxes in half.
Alsobrooks primarily resides in Prince George's County, where he serves as county commissioner and previously served as the county's state's attorney, according to CNN.
