Polls suggest an amendment to enshrine the right to an abortion in the Arizona Constitution has enough support to pass.

A majority of those who said they would vote for Trump (60%) plan to vote against the abortion amendment, while 33% plan to support it. Democrats are much more united on the abortion issue, with only 9% of likely Harris voters saying they would vote against the abortion amendment, compared to 11% of Democrats overall.
Among those who said they would vote for a candidate other than Harris or Trump, 45% planned to vote for the bill, while 27% planned to vote against it, according to the survey.

The bill amends the Arizona Constitution to declare that “every individual has the fundamental right to an abortion” and prohibits the state from:
Deny, restrict, or interfere with the rights of the unborn child before it is viable, unless justified by a compelling state interest achieved by the least restrictive means.
Refusing, restricting, or obstructing an abortion after fetal viability that the treating health professional determines in good faith is necessary to protect the life or physical or mental health of the pregnant woman.
It punishes any individual or entity who aids or assists a pregnant individual in exercising her right to an abortion as provided in this section.
Arizona currently restricts abortions after the 15th week of pregnancy, the time when a fetus is believed to be capable of feeling pain.
Arizona Supreme Court Allowed Arizona's near-total ban on abortion, dating back to 1864, was set to go into effect in April with the 15-week limit lifted, but Democratic Governor Katie Hobbs quickly signed the bill into law. Abolish The law went into effect on May 2nd.
The abortion bill, which requires a simple majority to pass, would eliminate the state's current 15-week abortion limit.
The poll was conducted among 713 Arizona voters from Sept. 17-21, 2024, and has a margin of error of plus or minus 4.4 percentage points.
