Parodies have been all over the place this election season, and many of them are pretty funny, especially when it comes to Kamala Harris.
A video circulating on social media in which the Vice President appears to expose himself as an incompetent presidential candidate has joker Elon Musk decided to retweet the video on his X account, apparently infuriating Gavin Newsom.
“I just signed a bill into law making this illegal in California. You can no longer knowingly run ads or other election-related communications that contain materially deceptive content, including deepfakes,” the governor said in X's post.
The tweet referenced an earlier post by Newsom in which he complained about fake ads. In the original post, he wrote, “It should be illegal to manipulate voices in these 'ads'. I will be signing legislation in the coming weeks to make sure it is illegal.”
“They're completely nuts if they think that the law is somehow going to stop everything that's coming at them through AI and editing and all that,” Dave Rubin of The Rubin Report told guests Dr. Drew Pinsky and Karol Markowitz.
“Satire is protected by the First Amendment. That's well established,” Markowitz said. “Obviously, I'm happy that he's finally made it here, with all his other issues in California,” she added with a laugh.
All joking aside, Markowitz isn't happy about Newsom's focus on the issue.
“It's horrifying that he's trying to do that, to silence speech that he doesn't agree with, and that speech is, you know, protected by the First Amendment, and it's satire,” she said.
But Newsom's fight against AI ads isn't actually working in his favor, as the Babylon Bee has created an AI ad that explains how incompetent the California governor is.
“My policies have been so effective that now nearly a million people are fleeing the state every year,” Newsom's AI voice says, adding that “bigots should not be allowed to have children,” and that Kamala will “do to the country what I did to California.”
The video ends with the closing words, “Thank you. Science bless America.”
“Aside from the fact that it's actually an exact copy of Kamala's video, it's more believable than the real Gavin Newsom ad,” Rubin said.
