A woman who claims she was prevented from entering Citi Field, home of the New York Mets, is suing the team for damages.
Orla Moody said in August that she and a friend were wearing MAGA hats and were told by staff at Citi Field that they couldn't enter the stadium wearing their pro-Trump hats.
Officers also wouldn't allow the women to keep the hats in their bags, forcing Moody, 64, to call another friend to return the hats to her car, the complaint said.
Moody is seeking $2 million in damages from the team and Citi Field, claiming the incident violated her free speech rights and caused her “emotional distress.”
“It was embarrassing. It was heartbreaking. It was shocking. It was humiliating.”
The woman, who visited the Mets field with a group of women from the Queens Village Republican Club, said, “We are conservatives and we believe in tolerance. If I had worn a BLM or Biden-Harris hat, they would have let me through.”
“This country is supposed to be a beacon of freedom for all,” she said. New York Post.
Moody also accused the Mets of “defamation” as well as “racism and political retaliation.”
“I requested to speak with my supervisor because I knew I was being subjected to racism and political retaliation because I am a Black woman who wears a MAGA hat,” her legal complaint states.
But when the case was first reported in August, Moody did not appear to mention any racial or other abuse he suffered because of his race.
The Mets apologized after the first incident, saying an employee had misunderstood the venue's dress code.
“A Mets employee had a misunderstanding regarding our dress code,” the team said in an August statement. “We apologize to Orla Moody and invite her to return to the ballpark.”
Mets spokeswoman Nancy Elder recently told the New York Post that the Mets would not comment on the lawsuit.
Moody said the attacks put the country on the brink of communism, “a system of confiscation of private property.”
She added that she supports Trump because he is “the people's president” and “the only person who can save America” from destruction by the Democrats.
Moody added that he doesn't know when or if he'll return to Citi Field.
“It was embarrassing. It was heartbreaking. It was shocking. It was humiliating. So how do I get back? It might take some time.”
