An alleged accomplice in the murder of a man whose dismembered body parts were found in the Bronx and Yonkers was arrested Tuesday, and prosecutors have revealed more details about the horrific crime.
According to police and sources, 18-year-old Ronay Harris was arrested by officers from the U.S. Marshals Service's Fugitive Task Force and the New York Police Department around 4:30 p.m. as she checked out of a motel on the New England Thruway in the Bronx.
Police say Harris is charged with multiple offenses, including murder, in the death of Lutalo Henderson, whose dismembered body was found inside a hot pot inside a Bronx apartment and a burning shopping cart in Yonkers.
The Bronx man's arrest comes days after police arrested former inmate Mohammed Aadil on suspicion of the same brutal murder.
Prosecutors said Tuesday that Adil, 40, and Harris are suspected of killing Henderson after an argument broke out between Adil and the 46-year-old victim, who lived with them at their Bronx home.
The district attorney's office said the suspect cut Henderson's legs below the knee and both arms down to his chin, then wrapped his torso in a garbage bag.
“The defendants allegedly murdered a man, dismembered his body, then placed it in a shopping cart and transported it on the Metro-North Railroad to Yonkers, where they set the cart on fire,” Bronx District Attorney Darcel Clark said in a statement. “This is a brutal disregard for the human being.”
Ardill was indicted Monday on charges of second-degree murder, first-degree manslaughter and concealment of a body, according to the Bronx District Attorney's Office.
According to the New York Police Department, Harris was charged with murder, manslaughter, concealment of a body, unlawful possession of a firearm and unlawful possession of a controlled substance.
Police previously said guns and drugs were found during a search of the Bronx home where the body parts were found.
Prosecutors said Harris will be arraigned at a later date.
Police did not disclose the relationship between the two murder suspects.
Ardill was remanded in custody by Bronx Supreme Court Judge Brenda Rivera and is due to appear in court on Dec. 19.
