Images of a UFO that was shot down by a U.S. fighter jet over Canada last year were released on Wednesday.

According to CTV News, the blurry photo, which appears to be a copy of an email printout, shows an unidentified cylindrical object floating in the air just days before it was shot down over the Canadian Yukon Territory, neighboring Alaska, in February 2023.

The news agency obtained the image through an information request from the Canadian Department of National Defense.

The object initially drifted into Canadian airspace from Alaska, and the North American Aerospace Defence Command first detected a “high-altitude flying object” flying at about 40,000 feet over Alaska, scrambling jets to monitor it.

The balloon was shot down on February 11, 2023, and was one of three aerial objects shot down that month, following the downing of a Chinese surveillance balloon a few days earlier.

The three objects were smaller than a Chinese spy balloon that floated across the U.S. from Alaska before being shot down off the coast of South Carolina on February 4, 2023.

“I also spoke with President Biden yesterday afternoon, and together we confirmed that we will continue to do all that is necessary to protect the sovereignty of our shared North American airspace and to do all that is necessary to keep our people safe,” Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said at the time.

A US F-22 Raptor fired an AIM 9X missile at the target, shooting down what was believed to be a “small metal balloon carrying a tethered cargo.”

Biden later said the three objects were unrelated to the Chinese spy ship incident.

The news agency said the UFO images were initially declassified in Canada and approved for public release, but then the deputy assistant minister for public affairs questioned whether they should be allowed for public release.

“If the images are made public, [Canadian armed forces] “Social Media Account,” officials said in an internal email, “given the current public environment and statements that the object is harmless, publishing the image may raise further questions or confusion, regardless of any text you choose to accompany the post.”
