Derrick Rose is retiring after 15 NBA seasons.
The former Knicks point guard announced his retirement on Instagram on Thursday, posting a photo of himself holding a newspaper with a love letter to basketball on it.
“The next chapter is about chasing my dreams and sharing my growth.” Rose told The Athletic..
“I believe true success comes from using the abilities you were born with, and I want to show the world who I am beyond basketball.”
“Everyone has a 'what if' story in their life, good or bad. I wouldn't change anything about my story even if I could, because it's what helped me find true joy.”
Rose, who turns 35 in October, Instagram Video A photo of him writing in his diary with a rose in hand is captioned, “Renaissance 9.26.24.”
The Grizzlies waived Rose on Monday.
Rose was the No. 1 pick in the 2008 draft and became the youngest NBA MVP in 2011 at age 22.
Rose was the 2009 Rookie of the Year and was a three-time All-Star who played for the Bulls, Knicks, Cavaliers, Timberwolves, Pistons and Grizzlies.
But what could have been a generation-defining career was hampered by repeated knee injuries.
