Vice President Kamala Harris touted her job at McDonald's to appeal to American voters, but now downplays it as a job she did when she was a “kid.”
“One of the reasons I talk about working at McDonald's is because some of the people who work at McDonald's in our country are trying to support their families. They worked there trying to support their families. They're supporting their families and paying the rent,” she said in an interview on MSNBC.

Harris used her summer job as important proof that she “knew what it meant to be middle class.”
Harris' campaign ad from August read: “She grew up in a middle-class family. She's the daughter of a working mother and worked at McDonald's while getting her degree. Kamala Harris knows what it's like to be middle class.” :
Another campaign ad said, “Determination is what drove Kamala Harris from McDonald's to prosecutor, state attorney general, U.S. senator and vice president in one generation.”
A pro-Harris super PAC claimed she “schooled at McDonald's.”
She also talks about the job in her X post as proof that she is “middle class.”
Harris' running mate, Gov. Tim Walz (D-Minn.), touted her supposed summer job as evidence of her “work ethic.”

Despite her privileged background, Harris tried to use her supposed summer job to suggest that she would fight for the middle class, but not her opponent, former President Donald Trump.
Trump, a longtime McDonald's fan, called this a “fake story.”
“She said she worked at McDonald's, but she actually didn't,” he said recently. “That was a lie. She never worked at McDonald's eating warm fries.”
