Gotham FC sign goalie Ann-Katrin Berger to long-term contract

As Gotham FC prepares for the postseason once again on the field, the defending champions continue to take care of themselves off the field.

Star goaltender Anne-Katrin Berger has signed a contract extension through 2026, the team announced Friday.

Berger, 33, joined Gotham from English giants Chelsea in April, a few months later than the team's high-profile free agent class, which was headlined by Rose LaBelle and Crystal Dunn. His addition has had just as much, if not more, impact.

Berger has conceded just 12 goals in 17 starts, with 12 wins and seven clean sheets.

She has scored 6.7 net goals above expectations for Gotham, which leads NWSL goaltenders on a per-minute basis, according to advanced metrics.

“I have truly enjoyed my time here and am very excited about my future with this club,” Berger said in a team statement. “This environment is truly special, and I’m excited to continue competing and doing my best.”

“We are very excited to have Anne with us long-term,” West GM Yael Apfelbach said in a statement, “and look forward to her first playoff experience with us.” “I'm working on it,” he said.
