Hogan says he doesn’t ‘agree with’ getting rid of filibuster

Former Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan, a fellow Republican Senate candidate, said in an interview Sunday that he “doesn't agree” with eliminating the filibuster.

Hogan: “I disagree with my opponent and Donald Trump about trying to abolish the filibuster.'' said CBS News' “Face the Nation” to the station's Robert Costa.

“Why not?” Costa asked.

“So you can get things done with one vote, on a partisan basis, and then you can swing the pendulum back and forth and create more division,” Hogan responded. “I think we need to find buy-in and bipartisan cooperation, like I do and in states with 70 percent Democratic legislatures. But we need to cut taxes, lower health care costs, pass criminal justice reform legislation. etc.”

Vice President Harris called earlier this week to eliminate the Senate filibuster so abortion rights could be codified.

“I think we should abolish the filibuster on Roe,” Harris said on Wisconsin Public Radio. “It's actually putting protections back into law for reproductive freedom and the ability of every individual and every woman to make decisions about their own bodies without the government telling them what to do.”

of Campaign site Hogan's Democratic rival, Prince George's County Executive Angela Alsobrooks (D), said she is “a firm believer that the Senate filibuster should be abolished.”

“We've got to find a way to get people in Washington to stop all the name-calling and stop trying to push things left and right,” Hogan said on a CBS News appearance. “And the filibuster allows for and requires bipartisan cooperation and agreement, and I think that's exactly what we desperately need in Washington.”

The Hill has reached out to the Trump and Alsobrooks campaigns.
