Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Lachie Rice left the field with a foot injury in Sunday's game against the Los Angeles Chargers, but Patrick Mahomes appeared to take the hit.
Mahomes threw an interception to Chargers cornerback Christian Fulton. When the cornerback returned the ball inside the field, the ball was stripped from him and was later ruled out of bounds. However, during the play, Mahomes tilted his shoulder toward Fulton's lower body. Mahomes completely missed Fulton and instead hit Rice's right knee.

Rice walked cautiously to the bench and barely moved from there. A cart came out to the sideline and Rice was helped behind it and laid down as he was carried off the field.
The team doubted Rice would return, but later announced he had been demoted to out.
Two turnovers immediately plagued the Chiefs.

A Carson Steele fumble led to a Justin Herbert touchdown drive that ended with a touchdown pass to Ladd McConkie. And after the interception, the Chargers kicked a field goal. They led 10-0 with 3:53 left in the first quarter.
But losing Rice would be a huge blow to the offense. He was the most targeted receiver ever in the Chiefs offense. With Travis Kelce off to a slow start, the Chiefs will need a next-man-up mentality to bounce back against the Chargers.
