NPR host Maria Hinojosa said on MSNBC's “The Sunday Show” this week that Latinos who support former President Donald Trump “want to be white.”
Host Jonathan Capehart said, “This is a Telemundo poll showing that the majority of Latino voters supporting Democratic candidates is shrinking.”
He said, “Vice President Harris has an approval rating of 54%, a 14-point lead over her, but that gap has narrowed in each successive presidential election since 2016. Why is that? ” he asked. Why is the Democratic Party's share of the Latino vote decreasing? ”
“What I said when I asked the question was that Latinos want to be white. They want to be with the cool kids,” Hinojosa said.
She added, “I ask Latinos all the time, and they just say, 'Well, isn't Donald Trump a negociant?' He's a very good businessman. ”No, it's not. He went through bankruptcy. But they don't want to be identified with the other immigrants that Donald Trump speaks so badly of, including myself as a Mexican immigrant, so they're like, “Let's be with him.” These numbers could cost Kamala Harris the election. For all the things I've said about the Latina potentially pushing her to the top, these numbers could also bring her down. ”
