The Trump campaign has denied formally accepting the former president's invitation to do a “60 Minutes” interview after CBS News claimed he declined.
“'60 Minutes' will air a prime-time election special on Mondays starting at 8 p.m. on Oct. 7…This year, both the Harris and Trump campaigns are planning to continue 60 Minutes. “We have reached an agreement,” CBS News said in a statement. It was released on Tuesday. “Vice President Harris is scheduled to speak with correspondent Bill Whitaker. Although he originally accepted a request for an interview with 60 Minutes' Scott Perry, former President Trump's campaign has decided not to participate. Perry will be speaking this Monday. I'm planning on giving a speech that night.”
But according to Trump campaign spokesman Stephen Chan, that's “fake news.”
“60 Minutes begged for an interview even after Hunter Biden was caught lying about his laptop in 2020,” Chan wrote on X. “There were initial discussions, but nothing was planned or set in stone.”

CBS News did not immediately respond to FOX News Digital's request for comment.
Chan alluded to President Trump's heated exchange with veteran 60 Minutes correspondent Leslie Stahl, who dismissed the Hunter Biden laptop scandal in an interview days before the 2020 election.

At the time, President Trump claimed candidate Joe Biden was “in the middle of a scandal.”
“Not really,” Stahl replied happily.
“Of course you do, Leslie,” Trump retorted sternly.
“No, come on,” Stahl continued to reject the president's claims, preaching, “This is 60 Minutes, and you can't air something you can't verify.”

CBS News announced that the election special will air as scheduled on Monday and will feature only an interview with Harris.
CBS News added, “The original invitation for a 60 Minutes interview with former President Donald Trump has gone through.”

The network's announcement came hours before the vice presidential debate between Ohio Republican Sen. J.D. Vance and Democratic Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz.
The “60 Minutes” special will be Harris' third interview with a national news organization, following last week's conversation with MSNBC's Stephanie Ruhl and her talk with CNN's Dana Bash.
