The state of cruise operations came into focus Tuesday after unionized longshoremen stormed picket lines at ports along the East and Gulf Coasts.
Cargo traffic has been disrupted at many major ports since the International Longshoremen's Association (ILA) strike began, but the union said last week that its members “will continue to operate passenger ships” during the work stoppage. Announced.
ILA Chairman Harold Daggett said on September 25th: “We understand that many families plan and pay for cruises on our ships more than a year in advance. “I don't want anyone to be disappointed or inconvenienced in any way,” he said on Sept. 25, referring to the union's pledge. An ILA spokesperson confirmed to FOX Business on Tuesday that he had not heard of any ports where that promise was not kept.
The ILA strike, the first union strike in nearly 50 years, entered its second day on Wednesday.
JPMorgan recently predicted that each day of work stoppage at Eastern and Gulf Coast ports could cost the economy up to $4.5 billion a day. Another estimate from Anderson Economic Group suggests that if the strike lasted a week, it could have an impact of $2.1 billion.

Fort Lauderdale-based Port Everglades said on its website that its cruise and oil operations are “unaffected by the ILA strike.”
