MSNBC guest says JD Vance ‘not the kind of despicable character we have seen’ in clips

Former MSNBC host Donnie Deutsch appeared on MSNBC's “Morning Joe” Wednesday morning and acknowledged that vice presidential candidate J.D. Vance was “excellent” during the debate.

“He was good,” he said. “I mean, maybe he was too subtle, but…he certainly wasn't the sneaky character that we saw in the clip,” Deutsch said in 2020. “I think that was a disqualification,” he said, calling the debate a “tie” until the election and Trump's refusal to concede defeat were discussed.

“If you can’t say that, I think you’re disqualified from the election,” he continued. “I mean, I think that's the issue, whenever I have a discussion with someone, yeah, democracy, of course, kind of comes up on the table.”

The frequent MSNBC guest also weighed in on criticism that the debates are boring, saying they will be a “referendum” on what people want going forward.

“I think the big theme of this was that it was very friendly and it wasn't a blood sport,” he said. “It wasn't the UFC. It was more like boxing. And if the American people were to say intuitively that the American people are ready for it, they want it, I I said to myself, is this a disease, some kind of twisted feeling that people are obsessed with Donald Trump's morbid entertainment?

“I was having fun, and they were disappointed, like, 'No, it's not fun. Are we going to go back to that?'” Now, the better angels in me are saying, “No. , people are ready for that, but it's an interesting question,” he added.

Mr. Deutsch concluded that Mr. Vance's strong performance would “disturb” Mr. Trump, arguing that Mr. Trump had shown Americans that he was the “better” candidate.

“Donald Trump will be very disparaging of J.D. Vance in the coming weeks, but this morning Donald Trump is not happy because he thinks J.D. Vance is the better candidate. “This is because we have shown that it is,” he said.
