Biden Says Israel Should Not Hit Iran’s Nuclear Program; Act ‘Proportionally’

US President Joe Biden said Wednesday that Israel should not attack Iran's nuclear program in response to Tuesday's ballistic missile attack by the Iranian regime.

On Tuesday, the United States and other allies helped Israel shoot down most of the 181 ballistic missiles launched by Iran, none of which resulted in any casualties on Israeli soil.

However, the second missile attack in six months forced all of Israel to evacuate to air raid shelters.

Israel has said it is determined to respond and will do so where, when and how it chooses. But the Biden administration has directed Israel to limit its response to the first attack in April, and appears to want to keep Israel in check again.

Biden spoke to reporters at Andrews Air Force Base in Maryland before departing on Air Force One to visit areas affected by Hurricane Helen.

He said the G7 countries were preparing a statement and would announce sanctions against Iran.

Asked by reporters whether Israel should attack Iran's nuclear program, Biden simply said, “No.” He said the G7 agreed that Israel had the right to respond, but said it should respond “proportionally”, without elaborating on that.

The Times of Israel reported that Israel's security cabinet has decided to coordinate its response to Iran with the United States.
