Man beats 6-year-old stepson to death with a metal bat in front of his family, police say

A Bridgeport man attacked a family and bludgeoned his 6-year-old step-son to death with a metal bat, Connecticut State Police said.

Family of 6-year-old Jaythan Escobar told WFSB-TV He was hospitalized with brain injuries and was placed on life support until he was pronounced dead on Wednesday.

“No matter what was going on, he was always so happy with everyone.”

Police announced that the boy's stepfather, Abdulrahim Sulaiman, 38, was arrested and charged with murder under special circumstances.

Sulaiman's 33-year-old wife told police she had known him for about a year and had only been married for a few months. She claimed that the man had recently been smoking PCP and had been violent.

A man allegedly attacked his wife and children with a metal baseball bat while his mother screamed for help in their apartment on Main Street on September 25th.

When police arrived and performed CPR on the child, said They were able to see brain material through the injury to his head.

Police said Sulaiman is on probation and has a history of violent crimes. Prior to the child death and murder charges, his bail had been increased from $1 million to $10 million.

“He was always very happy and really enjoyed life. No matter what was going on, he was always very happy with everyone,” the victim's cousin Sasha Herron said of the boy.
