Liz Cheney to join Harris on campaign trail at birthplace of GOP

Former Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.) will join Vice President Harris at a campaign event Thursday in Ripon, Wisconsin, known as the birthplace of the Republican Party, a campaign official said.

Ms. Harris is scheduled to speak about her trip to the battleground state, during which she is expected to praise Mr. Cheney, one of the many Republican supporters of the Democratic candidate's bid for the White House.

This will be the first time Harris and Cheney have campaigned together. Cheney and her father, former Republican Vice President Dick Cheney, endorsed Harris over Republican candidate Donald Trump last month.

Harris will note the importance of his visit to Ripon, home to the historic schoolhouse where Whig, Free Soil and Democratic Party members met in 1854 to lay the foundations of the Republican Party. Wisconsin is also a key battleground state that will determine the outcome of the November election.

Harris plans to directly appeal to Republican and independent voters during her visit to Wisconsin, where she will outline how she views the traditional Republican Party compared to the status quo under Trump.

Harris is expected to argue that while Republican voters may not agree with her, they can agree to uphold the Constitution and the rule of law, campaign officials said. She plans to criticize President Trump's previous statements about repealing the Constitution when he calls for its repeal in 2022.

Harris joins others, including former Georgia Lt. Gov. Jeff Duncan, former Rep. Adam Kinzinger of Illinois, and former Republican lawmakers and officials who helped launch “Republicans for Harris.” He has also received support from prominent Republicans.
