The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office said in a previous press release that Streit had not been seen since April 12, when he left a friend's house on foot and appears to have left his own free will. She was reported missing eight days later by her mother, Charlyne McClain.
McClain told NBC that her daughter's body was found near the home where she was staying.
McClain said she last spoke to her daughter on the phone that morning, and the 33-year-old is planning to visit her three young children, who live with her father, Steve Fultz, across the Missouri border in Cahokia, Illinois. He reportedly told her.
“We talked for about a minute and she said, 'I'm going to go see the kids,'” McClain told NBC News.
McClain told NBC that whenever her daughter went to see her children, Fultz either picked her up himself or sent someone to pick her up. “It was a pretty routine thing. So my guess was, 'She's at Steve's house right now and she's staying there,'” McClain told the magazine. .
Ms Streit's sister, Jess Streit, said: Fox2Now In June, Emily revealed that she had been in an “on-again, off-again, abusive relationship” with Fultz for most of her adult life, and that her sister was in an active relationship with Fultz at the time of her disappearance. Although he did not, he announced that he had been in contact with Fultz.

McClain said she received a surprising phone call from Fultz on April 19, a week after speaking with her daughter, saying she hadn't heard from Emily in a week, causing her to panic.
“He never called me and asked me any questions about Emily or tried to tell me anything about Emily,” McClain told NBC. “So when he called me, I panicked because he'd never done anything like that before.”
According to NBC, he and Fultz spoke via text and said the last time he saw Emily was in late March or early April and that he had no idea she had plans to visit their children. “I didn't know anything about Emily. [sic] I hadn't heard from her and wanted to meet the kids on April 12th! ” he wrote, according to NBC.
He told the media that his relationship with Emily will end in 2022 and their relationship revolves around their three children. He described Emily as “a strong, courageous woman and a wonderful mother.”
