Harris edges Trump by 2 points in new national poll

A national poll released Thursday showed Vice President Harris leading her rival, former President Trump, by two points.

new NPR/PBS News/Marist Survey Among likely voters nationwide, Harris leads the former president 50% to 48%, within the poll's margin of error. Among registered voters, the Democratic candidate held a 3-point lead, 50% to 47%.

According to the poll, Republican candidate Trump had an advantage among independents who are more likely to vote, receiving 50% of the vote compared to 46% for Harris.

The survey showed that the gender gap is widening. Nearly six in 10 men (57%) support Mr. Trump, while 41% support the vice president. Harris led the former president's lead among women, garnering 58% support compared to Trump's 40%.

Lee Miringoff, director of the Marist Institute for Public Opinion, said: “Behind the scenes, the gender gap continues to widen, and if things continue like this, the gender gap in this year's election results is likely to be even greater than in the past.''

According to the poll, the top three factors influencing who registered voters support in the 2024 White House election are preserving democracy at 64%, the economy at 59%, and immigration at 44%. .

About 51 percent of Americans have an unfavorable opinion of Trump, while about 45 percent have an unfavorable opinion. About 47% had a favorable view of Harris. She felt equally at a disadvantage.

More than half of respondents to the poll (58%) said they were “very concerned or concerned” about voter fraud in this year's election. Within party lines, Republicans (86%) and independents (55%) were significantly more concerned about voter fraud than Democrats (33%), according to the survey.

About two in three Americans (66%) say they are concerned about foreign interference in the 2024 election. About 59% of Americans agree that illegal immigrants in the country should be deported, up 8 points from 41% in March.

The latest Economist/YouGov poll released this week showed Ms. Harris leading Mr. Trump by 3 points, 48% to 45%.

The Democratic candidate leads the former president by 4.2 percentage points nationally, 50.2% to 46%, according to The Hill/Decision Desk Headquarters poll.

The NPR/PBS News/Marist poll was conducted from September 27th to October 1st. Pollsters questioned 1,514 registered voters and had a margin of error of 3.5 percentage points. The margin of error among 1,294 likely voters was 3.7 percentage points.
