Lawyers planning a lawsuit against Sean “Diddy” Combs on behalf of 120 alleged sexual abuse victims say they have received over 10,000 calls in about 24 hours to a hotline they set up to handle additional cases. They claim to have received a staggering 2,000 calls.
Texas-based attorney Tony Buzbee announced earlier this week that new accusers (including one who was only 9 years old at the time) are facing this challenge in the music industry with allegations of sexual abuse and exploitation. He revealed that he plans to sue the bigwigs and announced a hotline.
Since then, the hotline has received a surge of calls from people making similar complaints against attorney Combs. talked about law and crime In an interview on Wednesday.
“We've had 12,000 calls in about 24 hours since yesterday's press conference,” Buzbee said.
“So our hard job is to sift through all of these calls, positively identify victims and witnesses, and collect evidence.”
“We have about 100 people working on this work,” he added.
The lawyer said his team is seeking to ensure the claims of additional alleged victims in addition to the 120 cases it has already identified before taking further action.
“While the 120 lawsuits we announced yesterday are the ones we can file now against Sean Combs, we strive to include all potentially responsible parties when filing lawsuits. '' Buzbee told the outlet.
The hotline's revelations come after lawyers told reporters at a press conference that the new wave of complaints by 120 accusers, evenly divided by gender, spans 30 years and includes 25 children, including one child who was 9 years old at the time. The announcement came after several minors were said to have been involved.
The children who were allegedly abused by the rapper were seeking work in television and music with the promise of “making them stars,'' the lawyer argued.
Here's what we know about the allegations against Sean “Diddy” Combs
Buzbee publicly claimed that the alleged assault involved “a lot of powerful people” and would reveal “a lot of dirty secrets.”
Most of the new lawsuits are expected to be filed in New York and Los Angeles within the next month, Buzbee said.
The allegations are the latest in a flurry of accusations against the Bad Boy Records founder after he was arrested on sex trafficking charges in New York late last month.
A federal indictment unsealed last month alleges Combs manipulated women into participating in “freak-offs” (violent sex sessions that were sometimes recorded against their will) and drugged them. The troubling charges of administering the drug are detailed in detail.
Mr. Combs, who is being held without bail at the Federal Detention Center in Brooklyn, has pleaded not guilty to federal charges including racketeering conspiracy, sex trafficking and transportation for the purpose of trafficking in prostitution.
His representative did not immediately respond to a request for comment early Friday.
